Braskem strengthens its global presence at K Fair 2013

The Company will present the results of its international expansion strategy at the most important event of the global plastics and rubber industryesource conservation and energy efficiency as central topics

October 15, 2013 - Braskem, the largest producer of thermoplastic resins in the Americas, will participate in K Fair 2013, the most important event in the plastics and rubber industry, which will be held in Düsseldorf, Germany from October 16 to 23. In this edition, Braskem's participation has gained new dimensions. After consolidating its leadership in the Brazilian and regional markets, the Company has been expanding its international presence and today has industrial plants in Brazil, the United States and Germany.

Braskem, in partnership with the Mexican group Idesa, is currently responsible for one of the world's largest ongoing projects in the industry, which marks the resurgence of the petrochemical industry in the Americas. The complex under construction in Mexico will have the capacity to produce 1.05 million tons year of polyethylene annually, as well as an equivalent volume of ethylene. This will be the first new petrochemical project to benefit from the increased competitiveness provided by shale gas in the United States. Requiring investment of US$3.2 billion, the initiative is also part of the Company's strategy to diversify its feedstock sources.

Braskem's growth and international expansion were reinforced by the acquisition, in 2011, of two polypropylene industrial units in the United States, which ensured its local leadership in the industry, as well as by its presence in Europe through two manufacturing plants in Germany. In Brazil, Braskem, which serves clients nationwide, inaugurated in 2012 a new PVC production unit in the state of Alagoas and also expanded its butadiene production in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

The world's leading biopolymer producer, Braskem brings to K Fair its Green Plastic, which was introduced in the last edition of the event. In this edition, Braskem will detail the expansion of its I'm greenTM Polyethylene portfolio, which was announced last May with the launch of a new line of low density green polyethylene (LDPE). Annual Green LDPE production will amount to approximately 30 kton, with the product made available in the market starting in January 2014.

The expansion of the Company's line of renewable products reinforces its commitment to creating value through the sustainable development of the production chain, its clients and society, whose desire for solutions that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions are having a growing impact on their buying decisions.

During K Fair, Braskem will also present is extensive portfolio, which is the result of intense innovation efforts and the constant quest to incorporate sustainability into its products and processes. One of the highlights will be the introduction of the Braskem Maxio® line, which was created to differentiate its resins that offer efficiency gains and minimize the environmental impacts caused by manufacturing processes. Benefits include reducing energy consumption by lowering processing temperatures, shorter production cycles, the elimination of production phases and the reduced use of raw materials.

Another important launch at the fair is the new polyethylene resin for carbonated beverage caps that enables the production of caps with excellent sealing capacity that preserve the properties of bottled beverages. The launch complements Braskem's product portfolio for the beverage segment, which already includes polypropylene and polyethylene for injection and compression molding processes for caps both with and without liners.
