GreenPlast 2025: Shaping a Sustainable Future for Plastics

GreenPlast will host the conference "Shaping a Sustainable Future for Plastics", organised in collaboration with AMI (Applied Market Information).

February 19, 2025 – The exhibition-conference is set to establish itself as one of the main events of the year, addressing all topics related to the environment and the sustainability of plastics.

In this context, on 29 May, the third day of the conference, Assorimap, the Italian National Association of Plastic Recyclers and Regenerators affiliated with Confimi Industria, will participate with a dedicated session titled "Mechanical Recycling of Plastics - 2024: Circularity in Markets".

Topics of Discussion

The session will commence with the presentation of Assorimap's annual report on the production of secondary raw materials from post-consumer plastics, updated for 2024 and prepared by Plastic Consult. The report will be presented by Paolo Arcelli, Director of Plastic Consult.

In recent years, European companies have been consistently increasing investments in mechanical recycling technologies. In 2017, the installed capacity of European recyclers stood at approximately 6 million tonnes, whereas in 2023, it reached 13.2 million tonnes. However, the energy crisis of the past two years poses a risk of slowing down the entire sector.

The introduction of EU requirements regarding minimum recycled content in plastic products represents a significant step in the right direction, as it stimulates demand for recycled plastics and encourages investments in more advanced technologies to improve the quality and efficiency of recycling processes.

The future of mechanical recycling depends on a strong drive towards innovation, enabling the production of recycled plastics with properties increasingly comparable to virgin materials. This advancement expands potential applications, including in demanding sectors such as food packaging.

The event will also feature a round table discussion on the circularity of recycled plastics markets from both a national and European perspective. Key participants will include: Maria Cristina Poggesi, Director of IPPR (Institute for the Promotion of Recycled Plastics); Paolo Glerean, Chairman of Recyclass; Stefano Chiaramondia, Chairman of the international e-commerce platform PlasticFinder.

A Hub for Sustainable Plastics

The participation of Assorimap emphasises the key role of innovation in plastic recycling and further enriches the programme of prominent national and international speakers, making the "Shaping a Sustainable Future for Plastics" conference an unmissable event within the exhibition.

GreenPlast reaffirms itself as the ideal platform for the champions of plastics sustainability, both in the B2B and B2C arenas, offering an opportunity to engage in dialogue about the innovations transforming the sector. It represents a chance to showcase the tangible progress the plastics industry is making in combining economic development with environmental protection.
